Basin Street Hospitality’s Sheraton Sonoma County–Petaluma First Full-Service Hotel in Sonoma County to Receive Green Business Certification
Petaluma, Calif. – September 8, 2009 – The Sheraton Sonoma County – Petaluma, operated by Basin Street Hospitality, was recognized as a leader in environmental stewardship by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors. Basin Street Hospitality is a division of Basin Street Properties (www.basin-street.com), a prominent Northern California and Northern Nevada real estate investor of commercial and mixed-use properties. The Sheraton is the first full-service hotel in Sonoma County to be awarded the Bay Area Green Business Program Certification for meeting high standards of environmental performance by taking actions to conserve resources, prevent pollution and minimize waste.
Basin Street Hospitality’s Managing Partner Tom Birdsall said, “Our commitment to community extends to our commitment to the environment and it is our goal to do everything we can to ensure we are efficient in our use of resources while maintaining the highest level of service to our guests. As a Sonoma County business, we are pleased to be recognized for our efforts as we continuously strive to minimize our impact on the environment.”
To qualify for certification, the hotel had to exceed many Green Business Program standards. Internally, the process was coordinated by Kevin Caperton, the facilities manager at the Sheraton. According to Caperton, “Basin Street is very intent on doing our part to better the environment. The use of energy efficient lighting, motion sensor thermostats, recycled paper goods, and other green initiatives was instrumental in achieving this recognition. We are thrilled to be the first full-service hotel in Sonoma County to receive this acknowledgment.”
The Bay Area Green Business Program is a partnership between nine Northern California counties, area utilities, waste management companies and those businesses that commit themselves to operating in an environmentally friendly manner. Additional information can be found at www.greenbiz.ca.gov.
